Enterprise is a town located in Clarke County, Mississippi. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 474.

Enterprise Geography

Enterprise is located at 32°10'25" North, 88°49'19" West (32.173620, -88.821935). The Chickasawhay River is formed at Enterprise by the confluence of the Chunky River and Okatibbee Creek.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.44% is water.

Enterprise Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 474 people, 202 households, and 138 families residing in the town. The population density is 80.6/km² (209.0/mi²). There are 241 housing units at an average density of 41.0/km² (106.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 75.74% White, 23.84% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.21% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.21% from two or more races. 0.21% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 202 households out of which 29.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% are married couples living together, 12.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.2% are non-families. 28.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.35 and the average family size is 2.83.

In the town the population is spread out with 23.6% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 17.5% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 39 years. For every 100 females there are 97.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $33,125, and the median income for a family is $37,375. Males have a median income of $29,583 versus $21,719 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,995. 13.5% of the population and 9.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 14.5% of those under the age of 18 and 23.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
