Farmington History
Before 1850, Farmington was a prosperous village. Its prosperity suffered a blow, however, when it was bypassed during the construction of the Mobile and Ohio Railroad.

Farmington is located at 34°55'29" North, 88°26'9" West (34.924792, -88.435931).According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.7 km2 (3.8 mi2). 9.7 km2 (3.7 mi2) of it is land and 0.1 km2 (0.04 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 0.53% water.

Farmington Demographics
As of the census of 2000, there are 1,810 people, 685 households, and 537 families residing in the town. The population density is 186.9/km2 (484.2/mi2). There are 746 housing units at an average density of 77.0/km2 (199.6/mi2). The racial makeup of the town is 97.85% White, 1.10% African American, 0.06% Native American, 0.55% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.17% from other races, and 0.28% from two or more races. 0.33% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.There are 685 households out of which 41.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.4% are married couples living together, 11.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 21.6% are non-families. 19.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 4.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.64 and the average family size is 3.03.
In the town the population is spread out with 28.3% under the age of 18, 9.0% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 23.8% from 45 to 64, and 8.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 100.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 96.7 males.
The median income for a household in the town is $37,074, and the median income for a family is $41,696. Males have a median income of $29,531 versus $21,346 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,327. 4.9% of the population and 4.1% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.3% of those under the age of 18 and 9.2% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
