Brainard is a village located in Butler County, Nebraska. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 351.

Brainard Geography

Brainard is located at 41°11'1" North, 97°0'10" West (41.183725, -97.002832).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.7 km2 (0.3 mi2). 0.7 km2 (0.3 mi2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Brainard Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 351 people, 148 households, and 100 families residing in the village. The population density is 484.0/km2 (1,252.1/mi2). There are 162 housing units at an average density of 223.4/km2 (577.9/mi2). The racial makeup of the village is 99.43% White, 0.00% African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.57% from two or more races. 0.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 148 households out of which 37.2% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% are married couples living together, 9.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 31.8% are non-families. 29.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 12.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.37 and the average family size is 2.95.

In the village the population is spread out with 28.5% under the age of 18, 4.6% from 18 to 24, 24.5% from 25 to 44, 24.5% from 45 to 64, and 17.9% who are 65 years of age or older.
