Byron is a town located in Big Horn County, Wyoming. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 557.

Byron Geography

Byron is located at 44°47'48" North, 108°30'21" West (44.796653, -108.505773).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.3 km2 (0.9 mi2). 2.2 km2 (0.8 mi2) of it is land and 0.1 km2 (0.1 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 5.62% water.

Byron Demographics

As of the census of 2000, there are 557 people, 195 households, and 148 families residing in the town. The population density is 256.0/km2 (662.8/mi2). There are 217 housing units at an average density of 99.7/km2 (258.2/mi2). The racial makeup of the town is 90.84% White, 0.00% African American, 0.36% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 7.18% from other races, and 1.62% from two or more races. 14.00% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 195 households out of which 37.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.4% are married couples living together, 14.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 23.6% are non-families. 20.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 9.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.86 and the average family size is 3.34.

In the town the population is spread out with 32.9% under the age of 18, 7.4% from 18 to 24, 21.2% from 25 to 44, 24.8% from 45 to 64, and 13.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 106.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.8 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $34,375, and the median income for a family is $37,045. Males have a median income of $33,409 versus $16,667 for females. The per capita income for the town is $11,931. 22.6% of the population and 19.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 34.6% of those under the age of 18 and 9.1% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
