Torrington History
The town was founded by W.G. Curtis and named by him after Torrington, Connecticut where he had earlier lived. Originally a station on the C.B.& Q Railroad, the blossoming town soon became the main source of civilization for outlying pioneers. With its post office (established 1889) and several businesses it became a central area of trade for that region of Wyoming. The county court house was built in 1913 after a short fight with the neighboring town of Lingle, Wyoming.Torrington Geography
